Merchants around Victor and Farmington are helping fill gift baskets for a raffle fundraiser organized through the Victor Lions Club to benefit Honor Flight Rochester.
The baskets will be raffled off on May 15.
The Honor Flight Network is a nonprofit volunteer organization that seeks to take every veteran who otherwise would not, or could not, go to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor. More than a quarter of a million veterans have experienced an Honor Flight since 2005.
This is the club’s sixth year to support a local organization by collecting gifts from area businesses, such as Mike Cupernell from MC Automotive in Farmington.
“I know the value of military service, and see real purpose in promoting and supporting Honor Flight Rochester,” said Cupernell, a Navy veteran. “It’s a real thrill for me to have one of my customers come into my shop and mention they just returned from a trip to D.C., where they felt they were treated like kings.”
The club estimates it will have 12 baskets on display in and around the stores of local merchants and Victor Town Hall until the middle of May.
