Episcopal SeniorLife Communities is hosting “Gift of the Rose,” an exhibit of oil paintings by Peggy Martinez, in My Sister’s Gallery at the Episcopal Church Home, 505 Mount Hope Ave., Rochester, until May 12.
Martinez, of Chili, studied general art at Kutztown State College in Pennsylvania. The self-taught artist conducts lectures and demonstrations, and judged for the Batavia Art Group. She is a past board member and current member of the Rochester Art Club.
Her painting, business, management and marketing experience led her to teach watercolor classes for all levels, independent workshops and demonstrations for various art clubs, and at the Different Path Gallery in Brockport. Martinez said her goal is to share her experience, knowledge and love for art, and to paint her heart out.
She created posters for the Ibero-American Action League, a nonprofit organization aimed at raising funds for Latino senior and children’s programs experiencing state funding cuts, and Latinas Unidas to raise funds for the Women’s Scholarship.
“Gift of the Rose” is in memory of her sister Margarita Martinez.
The wheelchair-accessible gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
