Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren named Deputy Chief La'Ron Singletary as Rochester Police Chief. Singletary is a 19-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department and a 2006 criminal justice graduate from Keuka College.

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren named Deputy Chief La'Ron Singletary as Rochester Police Chief.

Singletary is a 19-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department. He is a Rochester native and a graduate of John Marshall High School and in 2006 he graduated from Keuka College with a bachelor degree in criminal justice.

He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy for law enforcement professionals.

"Having been born and raised in the City of Rochester, being a graduate from the Rochester City School District, and having the familiarity with many in the community allows me the opportunity to hit the ground running," Singletary said. "I will work hard to serve the men and women of the Rochester Police Department and the citizens of the City of Rochester to ensure we continue to provide a level of service that strengthens relationships, while continuing to focus on crime reduction.”

“I have no doubt he will be an outstanding chief of police. As our most recent crime statistics have demonstrated, community engagement saves lives," Warren said. "La’Ron’s expertise in this arena will be critically important as we continue our efforts to strengthen the partnerships between the community and the RPD.”

"We are happy that the Mayor has chosen someone from within the ranks who has knowledge of the department and the city's needs," said Rochester Police Locust Club President Mike Mazzeo in a statement. "No matter who was selected, the new chief is going to have his hands full dealing with the level of violence that we are seeing in this city."
