Eleven members of the McQuaid Jesuit crew team will row the entire length of the Erie Canal on June 25-July 2 for the eighth annual Row for Hope.
The 340-mile trip covers the entire length of the Erie Canal from Buffalo to Waterford, with stops in Brockport, Palmyra, Weedsport, Oneida Shores, Rome, St. Johnsville and Glenville.
This year’s rowers are juniors Gage Gardinier, Nick Hann, Bryan Sanchez, Steven Shadders, Levi Shkurko and Miles Stratton; sophomores Will Creighton and Cooper VanMaaren; and freshmen Nic Bailey, Josh Grams and Gabe Smith.
Proceeds will benefit House of Mercy, a Rochester homeless shelter and advocacy center. Over the last seven years, Row for Hope has raised over $200,000 for juvenile diabetes, the American Cancer Society, Kelly for Kids, Holy Childhood and Camp Good Days and Special Times.
House of Mercy was founded by Grace Miller and the Sisters of Mercy to provide food, shelter, clothing and advocacy to Rochester residents in need. The shelter on Ormond Street serves more than 4,000 people per month.
The Row for Hope team set a fundraising goal of $45,000. Sponsorship and donation opportunities are available. Email mcquaidrowforhope@gmail.com or visit rowforhope.net for information.
