A doe was stuck in the Sonnenberg fence and between two trees

CANANDAIGUA — A young doe can thank local first responders who sprung her free from a double entanglement at the garden fence.

At approximately 4 p.m. firefighters responded to a call for a deer stuck in the iron fence at the entrance to Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaifua.

Canandaigua Fire Chief Frank Magnera and firefighters Ben Cramer and Dan Speers, along with Patrol Officer Josh Raymond with the Canandaigua Police Department, all worked together to free to doe.

The doe had found itself pinned down in two places, with her body pinned between the bars of the fence and her neck and head in between two trees.

First the firefighters had to bend apart the iron bars, then they used a nylon strap that was placed underneath the doe's neck and lifted her free.

Once freed, the deer stumbled forward and into the woods, looking back at the ruckus before continuing on, banged up but appearing to be okay.
