A recent picnic in the Lodge at Victor Municipal Park marked the Victor-Farmington Rotary Club’s annual changeover ceremony.
The event featured the traditional passing of the gavel between presidents from Ross Cottone to Jim Crane, as well as the presentation of three Paul Harris Fellow awards for community service. The award indicates a $1,000 donation in each recipients’ name to the Rotary Foundation.
Two recipients are faculty members at the School for Integrated Arts and Technology in Rochester, and were recognized for their efforts in coordinating senior class projects with Victor-Farmington Rotary: Melinda Caparco, the teacher overseeing the senior class, and Donna Groff-McNulty, assistant principal.
The third recipient was Patrick Murphy, of Farmington, husband of Rotarian Solitaire Murphy. Patrick Murphy is a member of the U.S. Postal Service and has supported numerous Rotary projects over the years.
The club’s 2018-19 Rotary exchange student from Argentina, Joaquin Ellena Murature, delivered a repeat of the speech he made at the Rotary district convention in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania. Murature was selected to represent all of the Rotary exchange students at the conference, the first to do so from Victor-Farmington Rotary.
Cottone presented Murature a framed certificate recognizing his year representing the Rotary youth exchange program. Murature participated in the Victor Senior High School graduation ceremony and plans to attend a Rochester Red Wing baseball game before he leaves for a trip to the western U.S. He will return to Victor for a few days before going home in August.
Cottone thanked all in attendance for the support he received during his term as president. Crane commented on his plans for the coming year.
The venue at the park allowed Rotarians to inspect a recent club project that provided six wheelchair-accessible picnic tables to local parks in Victor and Farmington. The club also worked with Victor Parks & Recreation to fund cement pads at the bandshell in Victor Municipal Park.
Two of the new picnic tables are located in the Rotary Pavilion at Victor Municipal Park, two are in the town park on Dryer Road and two are in Farmington town parks.
