KENT, N.Y. (WHEC)- A group of fishermen on a chartered boat found a body off of Point Breeze in Orleans County on Sunday.
The Orleans County Sheriff's Office's marine unit and the New York State Police Marine Patrol have recovered the body.
Although there were initially few details revealed, the Orleans County Sheriff's Office has now said that the discovery was made about three miles off shore around 9:27 a.m. on Sunday. The Sheriff's Office says that the body appears to have been in the water for about three or four weeks, and they are working to match any missing persons information in the area with the body that was found. They are working with the New York State Park Police in Niagara Falls on the investigation.
The body, which was badly decomposed, has been transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and identification.
