Four teens died in the crash while a fifth teenager was injured.
BATAVIA, N.Y. (WHEC)- The victims of the car accident that left four dead- including three Dansville High School students- have now been identified.
The accident, which occurred around 4:32 a.m. on Saturday in the Allegany County town of Burns, saw a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east on County Route 13C fail to stop for a stop sign at the T-Intersection of County Route 13C and County Route 13. The vehicle traveled through the intersection before hitting a tree and an earthen embankment.
According to the New York State Police, the four people pronounced dead at the scene of the crash were:
16-year-old Rebecca L. Earner
16-year-old Ambra E. Eddleton
14-year-old Justin D. Carpenter
14-year-old Kyrstin L. Wolfanger
Police say that Earner was the operator of the vehicle. The fifth victim, 16-year-old Kelsi A. Bird, suffered multiple injuries that are being described as non-life threatening. According to police, Bird was the a front seat passenger and the only person wearing a seat belt during the collision.
All five victims were from Dansville, and four of them- including Bird- were students at Dansville High School. It is not known which of the victims was not a Dansville student.
The New York State Police say the incident remains an ongoing investigation. The Dansville Central School District has announced that counselors will be on hand on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to support students, families and employees.
