Numerous fire departments responded to a call in the Town of Springwater where a mother and child were able to escape a car fire that quickly spread to their home.

SPRINGWATER — A mother and child were able to escape a car fire that quickly spread to their home.

According to a press release from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, just past 7 a.m. Monday morning first responders arrived to 6951 County Road 37 for the report of a vehicle fire that spread to the residence.

According to Officials, Bethany Carmel, 34 and her 1-year-old child were in the vehicle when the fire started and were able to escape without injury.

A firefighter was sent to the hospital for heat exhaustion. The car was completely destroyed and the home severely damaged.

Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies, Richmond Fire Department, Springwater Fire Department, Bristol Fire Department, Livonia Fire Department, Wayland Fire Department, Hemlock Fire Department, Sparta Center Fire Department, Richmond Ambulance and Livonia Ambulance all responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
