“Rochester Americana: The Watercolors of Karal Ann Marling” is on display until Oct. 27 at the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester, 500 University Ave., in the Lockhart Gallery.
Marling draws on her career as a scholar of American art and popular culture to express her perspective on her home spaces, hometown of Rochester and 19th Ward neighborhood.
Marling started painting her surroundings after taking a creative workshop at MAG. “Rochester Americana” showcases her attention to detail and pattern, and features artwork she made as a child.
