Over three days in May, the Pittsford Mendon High School Track and Field Team sent four squads to compete in the Monroe County Championships. The County Championships bring together all teams regardless of class distinction — school size — to compete head-to-head.
At the sub-varsity girls meet, Sridevi Ramkumar won the triple jump and Sarah Winfree placed second in the 100 meter hurdles.
For the sub-varsity boys, three Vikings earned second place: Nathan Trumble in the 1600 meter run, Joey Detmer in the long jump and Tommy Sanders in both the shot put and the discus throw.
Five varsity girls scored points in individual events. Earning fifth place were Anna Schriefer in the 3000 meter run and Juliet Affronti in the high jump. Sixth place finishers were Maya Larimer in the 800 meter run and Riley Morrell in the 400 meter hurdles. Rachel McCarthy placed seventh in the 2000 meter steeplechase.
Two relay teams also scored points on the girls side. The 4 by 800 meter relay team consisting of Riley Morrell, Olivia Lucia, Maya Larimer and Julia Tomanovich earned second place.
Kamilah Sobers, Carrie Kandall, Samantha Erdle and Naiyah James captured fifth place in the 4 by 100 meter relay.
Three varsity boys scored points as individuals. Sam Lawler ran the third fastest 1600 meter time. In the pentathlon, fourth and eighth places went to Peter Anderson and Nole Ghera, respectively. The pentathlon includes 1500 meter run, 110 meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot put.
The varsity boys had one relay team score points. Dominic Tabechian, Ben Rosero, Sam Lawler and Colin Johnston placed eighth in the 4 by 400 meter relay.
