Tuesday is a solemn day for members of the Rochester Police Department. It marks five years since Officer Daryl Pierson was killed in the line of duty.

The RPD posted a tribute to Pierson on its Facebook page.

On Sept. 3, 2014, Pierson was shot and killed while chasing a suspect on Hudson Avenue. The man convicted of killing him, Thomas Johnson, was sentenced to life in prison.

Pierson lived in East Rochester with his wife and two children. He was 32 years old.
