The Buffalo Police Department is investigating whether there is a connection between an abandoned 3-year-old boy and human remains found in a burned-out car.

The unidentified boy was found Monday asleep in a box on a front porch on Potomac Avenue on the city's west side. The remains of two people were then found hours later on Tonawanda Street in the Black Rock neighborhood.

Police say the boy is not very verbal and could not tell them his name or who his parents are.

Our news partner, News10NBC's affiliate WGRZ spoke with the woman who found him on her porch.

"It was heartbreaking," Lois Augsberger said. "I started crying. I've been crying all day wondering about this little baby."

According to the Buffalo News, relatives of the child who live in Florida have come forward.

Police say the boy is in good health and has not been harmed. He is currently in the custody of Child Protective Services.
