Episcopal SeniorLife Communities is hosting “Through Eyes of Pastel,” an exhibit of pastel paintings by members of the Pastel Society of Western New York, until Oct. 27 in My Sister’s Gallery at the Episcopal Church Home, 505 Mount Hope Ave., Rochester.
PSWNY was founded in 2015 in response to pastel artists in the Finger Lakes and throughout western New York. Its mission includes building and strengthening connections with the fellow pastelist through exchange at meetings, plein air gatherings and special events.
Meetings focus on photographing artwork, framing pastels, reviewing pastel materials commercially available and demonstrations by members and visiting artists. PSWNY brings nationally established artists to Rochester for workshops twice a year.
PSWNY consists of approximately 50 members from a large area covering Syracuse to Buffalo, Rochester and Corning, as well as out-of-state. Members’ experiences range from being nationally recognized to pastels novices. The goal is to encourage and foster the creative pastel painting.
Through juried and jury-free exhibitions, PSWNY promotes public awareness of pastel painting as a fine art medium.
An opening reception will run from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 19. Admission is free. The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is wheelchair-accessible.
