Our community made a difference and opened its arms- and homes to a feral cat colony

A few weeks ago we told you about five kittens rescued from behind the Messenger Post Media newspaper building in Canandaigua.

The community stepped up with an overwhelming response to help out. We received more than 25 inquiries and five kittens were matched up with loving families. We also raised enough money to have the feral mother (TSVR) Trapped, Spayed, Vaccinated and Returned to her familiar colony with a clipped ear. The clipped ear is a universal sign to caregivers, vets and animal control that the cat is an altered feral cat with a safe outdoor home and/or colony.

Messenger Post Media worked with The Colony Caregivers for a successful TSVR. The volunteer organization is a one-of-a kind operation in Ontario County that assists with feral, stray and abandoned cats. The group is a not-for-profit that is dependent on donations and fundraising events. If you would like more information about The Colony Caregivers or would like to donate to the group; please visit: www.thecolonycaregivers.org

Messenger Post Media has discovered another feral mother and kittens living in a drainpipe. We plan on repeating this successful mission until the colony is safe and no longer contributing to the feral cat population in Canandaigua. We appreciate the community's support.
