Troopers said a U-Haul van crossed the centerline, striking an oncoming pickup truck.

Three people are dead following a head-on collision Saturday on State Route 63 in the town of Shelby.

Troopers said a U-Haul van was traveling south on State Route 63 around 11:30 a.m. when it crossed the centerline, striking an oncoming pickup truck. Both vehicles left the roadway and burst into flames.

The driver of the van, 80-year-old Charles Stevens of Black River, and the passenger, 57-year-old Jeffrey Johnson of Carthage, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck has not yet been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.
