The Greece Ridge Lions Club have been busy helping the community in various ways.
This fall, club members attended open houses at Greece elementary schools and conducted free vision screenings to detect possible vision disorders. Vision problems usually are corrected easily when detected at a young age.
Lions delivered food baskets to 20 families in need, allowing 120 people to have Thanksgiving dinners that they wouldn’t have been able to purchase for themselves. After making the deliveries, members met at a local Bill Gray’s and shared a meal.
On Dec. 7, the Greece Ridge Lions will help Latta Road Nursing Home residents as they play bingo. Members will participate in Arcadia Middle School’s annual Tree Gala by sponsoring and decorating an evergreen tree that will be displayed on Dec. 10-12.
The club’s largest community project is the medical equipment loan closet, where Greece and Charlotte residents can borrow items like crutches, walkers, wheelchairs and shower chairs by appointment, free of charge.
Lions collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids for those in need. Drop boxes are located at the Greece Public Library, Greece Community Center and local eyewear shops.
The club meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Prospective members are welcome; volunteer opportunities are available. Call (585) 340-7105 or email for information.
