The Beal Institute, under the direction of Mark Watters, will present “Visual Music: An Evening of World-Premiere Film and Music Collaborations” at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 in Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music, 26 Gibbs St., Rochester.
Compositions by graduating master’s students Shoghi Hayes, Derrick Thomas Hegeman, Yixin Huang, Zhe Pan, Aaron Seibert-Castiniera, Peiyao Wang and Linyao Zhang will be performed live-to-picture by the 35-piece Empire Film and Media Ensemble.
The compositions represent visual music, showcasing films from Rochester Institute for Technology student filmmakers and classic silent films. The second half of the free program will feature a new score composed for “Dracula” starring Bela Lugosi.
RIT student films will be shown alongside their composition counterparts, including work from Tianyi Yin and Bingjie Xiao.
