The Ontario County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that occurred Thursday night in the Town of Canandaigua.

In a press conference held at the Ontario County Jail Friday morning, Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts and Sheriff Kevin Henderson both made clear that the investigation was ongoing and the suspect was taken into custody.

Henderson also emphasized that there was no additional threat to the community as a result of the incident.

A post on the Ontario County Sheriff's Office's Twitter feed made shortly after 12:30 a.m. Friday states: "Sheriff Henderson states that the sheriffs office is currently investigating a homicide on County Rd. 16 in the Town of Canandaigua. There is no concern to the residents in the area, this is an isolated incident. County Rd.16 is closed from Peg Rayburn Drive to Butler Rd."

Daily Messenger news partner News 10NBC reports that one woman died on the scene and that a man suffered injuries and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Just after 2 a.m., the Ontario County Sheriff's Office tweeted that a suspect in the homicide was in custody. Monroe County sheriff's deputies said the crime was connected to an incident in Fairport and an arrest in Irondequoit early Friday morning.
