For nearly four decades, Richard Tantalo has served his hometown with distinction and honor as a member of the Irondequoit Police Department, most recently as its chief of police for the past several years. Through his leadership, the department has embraced the community policing philosophy and become a model of how law enforcement can and should engage with the very people it protects.
As supervisor, I have appreciated Chief Tantalo’s leadership, counsel and dedication to ensuring that every member of our community feels safe. On behalf of the entire Irondequoit community, I would like to congratulate Chief Tantalo for his appointment to County Executive Bello’s administration and wish him the very best in this new endeavor.
Upon Chief Tantalo’s departure, Capt. Alan Laird will become acting chief. The town board will interview candidates and make a permanent appointment in the coming months.
