The COVID-19 outbreak brings a lot of disruption for Rochester families, but a Facebook group is providing a platform for local neighbors to provide mutual, direct aid to those in need.
COVID-19 Rochester New York Food Relief was created by Rochester resident Christa Seary and is co-managed by Ilhan Ali. To date, the group has helped feed over 350 area residents in need of assistance.
“I could not be more proud of how my Rochester neighbors joined together on social media to help our neighbors in need,” Seery said. “I originally started this Facebook group to provide food for children who are no longer able to receive free or reduced-cost meals at school. With the help of Ilhan, our group has been able to accomplish so much more. Hundreds of men and women have been helping people find medical supplies, identify creative ways to stay active and positive while at home, and feed families in need.”
The group also shares updates on local coronavirus news, connects neighbors in need of supplies with donors and procures donations for local first responders. Visit facebook.com/groups/ROCFoodRelief for information.
