Since its first event in 1986, the Francis “Ben” Bonafiglia Golf Tournament has raised $930,000 in support of children and adults with disabilities. The 2020 tournament is slated for Aug. 5 at the Seneca Falls Country Club.
This year’s socially distanced tournament will be held in two waves of golfers: the first will tee off at 8 a.m., with check-in starting at 7 a.m., and the second will tee off at 12:30 p.m., with registration at 11:30 a.m.
All proceeds from the tournament benefit Ability Partners Foundation in support of the programs and services offered through CP Rochester, Happiness House and Rochester Rehabilitation.
The $125 per golfer fee includes food and beverages all day, 18 holes of golf with carts, and special gifts for each golfer. Throughout the day, golfers have the opportunity to participate in raffle drawings and contests to win prizes.
The honorary chair for this year’s tournament is Michael Bentley, of Canandaigua, who leads operations for Safelite Auto Glass in western New York and northwest Pennsylvania.
Bentley was asked to be a regional leader within the organization to Champion Inclusion in 2018. He drove the initiative for inclusion of people of all abilities to be able to gain lasting employment based on their abilities and not that of a job description. Bentley was instrumental in creating a culture of success for people of all abilities by calling for a change in hiring practices within his organization, as well as other organizations across the western NY region.
In 2018, he was the first recipient of the Be an Owner Award. He and his wife, Nanci, initiated the Dream Big campaign to create an area of play, health and wellness for people of all abilities. This area is scheduled to open in summer 2021 behind Canandaigua Happiness House facilities in Outhouse West Park.
