WXXI wins Associated Press awards

WXXI News recently received four awards from the New York State Associated Press Association, which recognizes the best in newspaper and broadcast journalism.

NYSAPA received roughly 1,300 entries, which included news, features and sports stories from 2019. WXXI was honored in the following categories.

Digital Presence: first place, WXXI News, Juan Vazquez (digital engagement facilitator).

Enterprise Reporting: first place, “Rochester Has a Bike Lane Problem” by Brett Dahlberg.

News Series: second place, “Debate Over Marijuana Legalization” by James Brown, Dahlberg and Veronica Volk.

Sports Feature: first place, “Football Pioneer Henry McDonald” by Brown.

The NYSAPA awards banquet annually held in Saratoga Springs was canceled this year due to COVID-19.
