A group of advocates from the Rochester chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby recently participated in a virtual climate conference and lobbying event.

The event, attended by 4,685 climate advocates, offered online keynotes by national figures on both sides of the aisle, including U.S. Sens. Mike Braun, R-Indiana, and Chris Coons, D-Delaware. Former U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Florida, speaking on the actual cost of carbon pollution, said, “hiding costs inside an economy so that consumers cannot identify them is not a conservative way of thinking.”

Breakout sessions and seminars explored the New Hampshire grassroots Carbon Cash-Back Coalition, which led to 23 towns in passing a resolution asking state and federal legislators for carbon fee and dividend legislation.

Shannon Caraway, who spent more than 30 years in the electric power generation, delivery and marketing business, provided data from sources such as MIT, Elon Musk and others on how a carbon-free economy would provide energy, jobs and economic growth.
