Penfield accountant among ‘Forty Under 40’

Anthony Mangiameli, of Penfield, was named to the first “Forty Under 40” awards by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

The award honors NYSSCPA members who hold a leadership role of importance in their organization, made significant achievements in their career and have substantial involvement in community service outside of the performance of their day-to-day job.

Mangiameli graduated from St. John Fisher College. He joined Insero & Co. CPAs LLP in 2006, and is a principal in the Audit and Business Advisory Services Group. His volunteer work includes Champion Academy Extreme Mentoring & Empowerment Initiative and Flower City Habitat for Humanity.

Rochester law firm awards Diversity Scholarship

Harter Secrest & Emery LLP recently awarded its Diversity Scholarship to Karthik Sekharan, a first-year law student at the University at Buffalo School of Law.

Sekharan received $7,500 and a paid summer associate position in the law firm’s Rochester office. Before starting law school, he worked as a paralegal at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy LLP in Boston.

Sekharan earned his Bachelor of Science in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University, where he participated on the management team of the Cornell Annual Fund and was editor-in-chief of Sports Inc. magazine.

Penfield Rotary awards 2020 scholarship

The Penfield Rotary Club presented its 2020 scholarship to Penfield High School graduate Ella Wulforst.

Wulforst was selected for her academic achievement and service to the community. While at Penfield, she participated in varsity field hockey, Sources of Strength, student government, HOBY, Empire Girls State and National Honor Society.

Wulforst plans to study materials science and engineering in the fall through the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars program at Ohio State University.
