Chili adds drive-thru for tax payments via check
Virginia Ignatowski, tax receiver for the town of Chili, is accepting school tax payments through Oct. 1.
While Town Hall is open to residents, one person is allowed in a department at a time, with limited holding area for additional residents. Residents are encouraged to mail their payment, use the night deposit box near the front doors or pay online at monroecounty.gov. The county waived the 3% fee for online payments.
A drive-thru option is available for school tax payments made by check.
“Town Supervisor David Dunning approached me several weeks ago about adding this option, as he was concerned that people may have to wait outside in September given the high volume of residents seeking hunting and marriage licenses, in addition to making school tax payments,” Ignatowski said. “Additionally, this will assist the town’s efforts to reduce staff exposure to COVID by implementing an outdoor option.”
The drive-thru is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays-Fridays. Directional signs are placed to assist residents in locating the drive-thru at the back side of the building. Residents should bring both pages of their bill with and need to wear a mask during their transaction.
“The situation surrounding COVID has proven to be very fluid, so I advise that residents visit the town’s website at townofchili.org prior to making their payment to verify current options and instructions that are present at that time,” Ignatowski said. “I can’t guarantee that the situation will be the same at the end of the collection as it is at the beginning.”
